RPS Webinar: Structuring RPSs to Recognize the Value of Installed Renewable Capacity

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

This webinar, presented by the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) for the State-Federal RPS Collaborative, highlights a proposal to give special credit within renewable portfolio standards to technologies and projects that contribute to reserve margins.

Adil Caner Sener of ICF International wrote about this topic in an article in The Electricity Journal (“Redefining Renewable Portfolio Standards: The Value of Installed Capacity,” Jan./Feb. 2011). He will present his ideas in the webinar. He suggests that: “An ideal RPS design should hit the right balance between generated energy and reserve margin contribution.” He will discuss how this could be done. His suggestions would tend to benefit geothermal energy, landfill gas, and other technologies that strengthen reserve margin reliability. After the presentation, there will then be ample time for questions and answers.
