States Advancing Wind Webinar: Best Practices for Sustainable Wind Energy Development in the Great Lakes Region

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 @ 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

This webinar, presented by the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) and the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative (GLWC), highlights a GLWC report entitled “Best Practices for Sustainable Wind Energy Development in the Great Lakes Region.” Most of the recommendations in this report are broadly applicable to other regions of the U.S.

The best practices being presented are intended to advise wind development efforts and renewable energy policies in the region to help provide clean, locally generated wind energy, protect natural resources, and honor the needs of communities.

The publication was developed by a diverse group of stakeholders from the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative. It features best practices in the areas of Siting, Planning and Permitting; Offshore Wind; Energy Policy; Public Engagement; and Decommissioning.

The best practices were selected after a broad literature review and a thorough analysis by stakeholders engaged in onshore and offshore wind in the Great Lakes region. They represent practices that have been both previously tested and proven effective, as well as new practices that were identified by experts in the field as needed for future wind developments.

This webinar also features a discussion on the main findings from two of CESA’s recent publications for state and local officials: Supporting On-Site Distributed Wind Generation Projects and State-Based Financing Tools to Support Distributed and Community Wind Projects.
