New Jersey Clean Heating and Cooling Calculator

• Annual emission savings – The difference between your home heating system’s current greenhouse gas emissions and the emissions associated with the Clean Heating and Cooling technology you select. 

• Annual energy cost savings – The difference between the energy cost of using your current system and the energy cost of using the Clean Heating and Cooling technology you select. (A negative value – in parentheses – means that you are not expected to realize any financial savings by switching to Clean Heating and Cooling.) 

• Estimated cost of purchasing and installing Clean Heating and Cooling – The cost of equipment and labor to install the system you select. This is expressed as an estimated range, because many variables can affect cost, such as the extent of your home’s insulation and the home’s layout. 

The calculator’s cost estimates incorporate available federal and state financial incentives. Information about federal energy efficiency tax credits is available on the Energy Star website. Information about state incentives is available on the NJCEP website. 

The calculator provides a summary report. You can save it for your records and then, if you wish, use the tool again to explore how changing some of the variables changes the results. For example, how will the estimated savings change if you make weatherization improvements or if the price of fuel increases? 

The Clean Heating and Cooling Calculator was developed through a collaboration among the Clean Energy States Alliance, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Rutgers Center for Urban Policy Research, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Connecticut Green Bank, and the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority. The research and analysis for the calculator was carried out by VEIC. ROI Selling designed the web interface.

The calculator is designed to give users an initial estimate of the potential cost savings and greenhouse gas emission savings of installing a Clean Heating and Cooling system. Actual savings will be determined by the specific design of the system, specific features of the home, residents’ energy use behaviors, and other variables. 

We do not guarantee that a specific CH&C installation will achieve the savings the calculator estimates. Users should not rely on this tool alone when making purchase decisions.
