Leveraging Federal Funding for Transmission Technologies and Renewable Energy Integration

Tuesday, August 22, 2023 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET

The Inflation Reduction Act will dramatically accelerate renewable energy development, and the transmission grid will need substantial upgrades to accommodate the shifting generation portfolio. “Grid Enhancing Technologies,” as they were named by the Federal Energy Regulatory Agency (FERC), can unlock flexibility and additional capacity on the existing transmission infrastructure, enabling twice as much renewable generation in some regions.

In this webinar, hosted by the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) and WATT Coalition, panelists explained the potential of some of these technologies—dynamic line ratings, advanced power flow control, and topology optimization—to enable the grid to deliver cleaner, lower-cost generation to customers. Panelists also discussed the federal funding that is available to support their deployment.

Panelists:

  • Mike Razanousky – Senior Project Manager, NYSERDA
  • Joseph Lookup – Director of Asset Management, PPL
  • Julia Selker – Executive Director, the Working for Advanced Transmission Technologies (WATT) Coalition
  • Bentham Paulos – Senior Research Associate at the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) (moderator)
