Cimarron District Office: Supporting Firefighters in New Mexico with Solar+Storage

Tuesday, September 17, 2019 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET

This Clean Energy Group webinar highlights a recently installed solar PV and battery storage system (solar+storage) at one of the Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECMD) of New Mexico’s most remote offices, the State Forestry Division Cimarron District Office.

Energy resilience is critical for the facility, which serves as the Fire Command Center for the northwestern region of New Mexico, directing fire suppression support efforts of upwards of 300 firefighters. The added layer of energy resilience the new solar+storage system provides ensures that the Cimarron District can effectively communicate with local fire departments, the community, and other agencies during a wildfire emergency. Without a reliable source of backup power, an outage could interrupt or shut down fire suppression operations for hours or even days. Along with energy resilience, the solar+storage system is expected to reduce the facility’s utility costs by 90 percent and help protect sensitive equipment against damage due to poor power quality issues.
