New York Governor Cuomo has announced plans for a “Green New Deal,” an ambitious plan to accelerate the state’s clean energy economy. The Governor’s agenda includes:
- A mandate for 70% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% carbon-free power by 2040
- Deployment targets for offshore wind, distributed solar, land-based wind and solar, and energy storage
- The creation of a state Climate Action Council
- Provisions for delivering the benefits of clean energy to low-income and under-served populations
Governor Cuomo also announced $1.5 billion in competitive awards for the development of 20 large-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects in the state.
